Visual Revolution
Captured entirely on PlayStation 5. The most visually stunning open-world game ever created.
Rockstar confirmed that everything shown in Trailer 2 was captured directly on a standard PS5 and includes a mix of gameplay and cutscenes. The game runs at a locked 30 frames per second in Fidelity mode, optimizing performance for visual fidelity.
Next-Gen Features
Ray Traced Global Illumination
Full-scale RTGI where light bounces naturally through every scene. Light reflects realistically off wet streets, car paint, glass windows, and interior surfaces. Most current-gen games use ray tracing sparingly — GTA VI integrates it at the core of its visual design.
Ray Traced Reflections
Realistic reflections across Vice City's central bay. Mirrors, car surfaces, and building windows show accurate real-time reflections of the environment. The ferris wheel reflection in the bay is a stunning example of this technology.
Strand-Based Hair
Individual hair strands are rendered and react to wind, movement, and water. Light shines through afros, arm fuzz is visible, and hairstyles respond naturally to physics. Characters feature growing hairstyles and facial hair over time.
Volumetric Clouds & Weather
Advanced cloud systems similar to Red Dead Redemption 2 but taken further. Dynamic storms, realistic rain, and volumetric fog create atmospheric conditions that affect gameplay and visibility.
Water Physics
Realistic water physics that respond to boats, wind, and weather. Fluid dynamics for beer bottles and other liquid containers. Ocean waves, lake ripples, and swamp murk all behave uniquely.
Clothing Physics
Clothing reacts dynamically with physics-based motion in response to wind and character movement. Customization includes clothes, hairstyles, tattoos, and even fine-tuning Lucia's makeup, fingernail length, color, and style.
Parallax Mapping
Simulates realistic building interiors even from exterior views. Windows show depth and activity inside without entering the building. Creates the illusion of a fully realized world.
Vegetation System
Diverse and reactive vegetation system. Grass, trees, and swamp plants respond to wind, vehicles, and weather. The Everglades-inspired Grassrivers region showcases this technology.
Character Detail
Highly detailed faces, skin textures, and dynamic sweat systems similar to RDR2. Playable characters wear wristwatches that show real in-game time. Growing hairstyles and facial hair over time.
Platform Breakdown
Sony says GTA VI will play best on PS5 with near-instant loading times thanks to the ultra-high speed SSD. The DualSense controller's built-in speaker enhances key in-game moments with haptic feedback.
Available day one on Xbox Series X and Series S. The Series X version will target higher resolution while Series S may use dynamic resolution scaling to maintain performance.
PC version has not been officially announced. Based on Rockstar's track record, a PC port is expected 12-18 months after console launch. The PS5 roughly matches an RTX 2070 Super / RTX 4060.
